He contended that the increase in oil prices has caused economic hardships for the people of Pakistan, saying the people are already committing suicides due to economic worries.
He submitted that the respondent government and authorities concerned never called objections and suggestions from the general public before making any increase in the oil prices.
The petitioner said that Pakistan being a welfare state is responsible for providing maximum facilities to its citizens, adding the increase in oil prices also affect the prices of other commodities.
He said that prices of petroleum products in the international market are declining, but the respondents have increased the same without any justification.
The petitioner, therefore, prayed to the court to issue directions to the respondents for withdrawal of the recent increase.
The court, after hearing the petitioner at length, issued notices to the respondents and called for a report within three weeks.
LHC ISSUES NOTICE: The LHC issued notice to the DEO (Health) in a petition filed by Muhammad Akram challenging orders issued by the respondent, banning use of plastic drums for carrying milk, and directed the law officer to appear before the court on March 1.
The petitioner contended that he had been dealing in the business of milk for the last 20 years, saying the respondent had taken samples of milk on various occasions, but did not object on the use of drums for carrying milk. He said that action of the respondent is illegal, unconstitutional and without lawful authority.
The court, after hearing the petitioner's counsel at length, issued notices to the respondent and also directed the law officer to appear before the court on next date of hearing.
